Michael Parsonage is an economist who has been working at the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health on a part-time consultancy basis as a Senior Policy Adviser since December 2002.
He previously worked as a senior economist in the Department of Health and then in HM Treasury, where his responsibilities included the provision of economic advice on labour markets and welfare reform.
At SCMH he has produced a number of reports based on the application of economic analysis to mental health issues, including The Economic and Social Costs of Mental Illness, Money for Mental Health, Payment by Results: what does it mean for mental health?, The Costs of Race Inequality and - most recently - Delivering the Government's Mental Health Policies: services, staffing and costs (with Jed Boardman). He will be bringing this economic perspective to a range of projects in the SCMH employment programme.
