Juliet is an independent Service User consultant with a long history in encouraging, capturing and supporting the 'user voice' in mental health service development, evaluation and monitoring. Originally a school teacher, Juliet has been a PALS manager for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Trust, commissioned to lead projects for PCTs and the voluntary sector and has facilitated at a local level the implementation of the National Women's Mental Health Strategy since moving into mental health 15 years ago.
A skilled and experienced writer, researcher, and facilitator, Juliet's recent work has taken her into the field of service transformation - she worked with the Sainsbury Centre Employment programme on the Transferring to Transform and East Sussex service redevelopment projects: supporting service user involvement by facilitating groups to take an active part in the modernisation. She also developed (both writing and delivering) a training programme on various aspects of involving service users as commissioners. This training programme was subsequently published in About Time - commissioning to transform day and vocational services.
As an independent, Juliet's expertise in the field of service user involvement is available to the health and voluntary sectors and Juliet frequently works on commission for time-limited periods: current work includes the development of standards for service user involvement in commissioning, including a handbook for (Trusts) wanting to implement such standards. A passionate and dedicated advocate for the 'user voice', Juliet works, in all things, to ensure that service users are treated as equal partners in any process that involves them.
